As Islam interprets it, it reflects the equality of man before God. According to the Jordanian state news agency Petra, a man was arrested at the scene of the shooting in the Abdali district. But where there is a discernible gender gap, women are more likely than men to believe in these concepts. It also may have been that the state targeted members of Al-Adl to weaken their efforts to emancipate women within an Islamic framework, by recruiting the organization’s members that are most active in this regard. But back then it was Islam according to Elijah Muhammad’s Nation of Islam-an odd cult whose principles of racial hatred and separatism, and whose beliefs about White people being a genetically engineered race of “devils,” stood it in contrast with Islam’s more orthodox teachings. Gone was the belief in White people as exclusively evil. As of 2021, the community is estimated at 65 thousand people (many from the Maghreb and the Middle East, notably from Syria and Iraq, as well as from Afghanistan and Bangladesh among other countries) and spreads over several parts of Portugal, most prominently within the Lisbon Metropolitan Area, Porto Metropolitan Area, and Algarve. A prominent Jordanian writer, who was on trial for sharing a cartoon deemed offensive to Islam, has been shot dead outside a court in Amman where he was due to appear. This view has continued to the modern age in the rejection of the Ahmadiyya sect of Islam as apostates by mainstream Sunni and Shia sects of Islam, because Ahmadis consider Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, founder of Ahmadiyya, as a modern-day Prophet.
