Today, there is tension between large cities and smaller urban areas in terms of who will have the strongest voice in shaping Islam in Syria down the road. The resounding message was that Islam threatens to completely engulf the church if it is not countered by a robust biblical faith grounded in love and truth. I determined to make a faith decision that night and stick with it. To be truthful, I didn’t have total peace in any direction, but just as an umpire has to make a decision and stick with it, I needed to make the call. Religion is very real; it is an expression of society itself, and indeed, there is no society that does not have religion. Some thought they had directives from the crown to kill all the Protestants, others thought there was no such thing.

The first thing I did when that happened was make sure I was really seeking the Lord with my whole heart. However, being a man, I went with logic instead of my heart. I made a decision right then and there that I would never ignore my heart again. I didn’t want to be in college anymore, and following those new desires, I made the decision to quit school. Within twenty-four hours the Lord gave me such confirmation and joy that I have never doubted the wisdom of that decision since. The treat doesn’t have to be inside a cake or bread, either. I have no rest from it. Chambers’ lawsuit may have gone nowhere, but it did serve as a reminder that if you want to, anyone can try to sue God-even if winning might take a miracle. In the U.S. legal system, Mezey says, it’s relatively easy to bring a legitimate complaint against anyone, so long as you can meet the basic standards. Then our spirits speak to us in words like, “I think the Lord wants me to do this or that.” The Lord doesn’t typically say “You do this or that,” but He will impress your spirit to do something, and then your spirit says, “I think I should do .

The Lord spoke to me that I was to head in the direction that gave me the most peace. I had the most peace about quitting school, so I made the call and stepped out of indecision into faith, to the best of my understanding. I realized I was in sin because of indecision. It could save your life just as it did mine. The Lord always speaks to us in that “STILL, small voice” (1 Kings 19:12, emphasis mine), but often it’s drowned out amid all the turmoil of our daily lives. It turns out it’s this inability to be served notice of a lawsuit that ultimately prevents most courts, like the one in the Chambers case, from allowing legal claims against God to proceed.
