The Articles of Religion of the Methodist Church
Proving Satan wrong, Job refuses to forsake his belief in God, and never once curses God. It seems that Job has it all-he’s wealthy, wise and has a great family. Like Walter Winchell and Gabriel Heatter before him, he personalized the radio news with his right-wing opinions, but laced them with his own trademarks: a hypnotic timbre, extended pauses for effect, heart-warming tales of average Americans and folksy observations that evoked the heartland, family values and the old-fashioned plain talk one heard around the dinner table on Sunday. Original sin standeth not in the following of Adam (as the Pelagians do vainly talk), but it is the corruption of the nature of every man, that naturally is engendered of the offspring of Adam, whereby man is very far gone from original righteousness, and of his own nature inclined to evil, and that continually. The speech was originally delivered in 1978, smack dab in the middle of the Carter era, and with its folksy timbre and talk of God, Paul Harvey’s words stood out amid the stream of ads that ranged from salacious to ridiculous to sentimental on 21st-century CBS. A decades-old speech from a conservative radio broadcaster who passed away in 2009 became a major topic of chatter when it was condensed and delivered as the audio backdrop for a Ram Trucks ad during the second half of the Super Bowl Sunday.

Rated: 3.5/4 Oct 23, 2004 Full Review Dennis Schwartz Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews The likable George Burns is easy to take in such a ridiculous role. George heard the heavy wooden door slam in the wind as Chuck came out onto the parapet beside him. God said, “I need somebody willing to sit up all night with a newborn colt. And watch it die. Then dry his eyes and say, ‘Maybe next year.’ I need somebody who can shape an ax handle from a persimmon sprout, shoe a horse with a hunk of car tire, who can make harness out of haywire, feed sacks and shoe scraps. And who, planting time and harvest season, will finish his forty-hour week by Tuesday noon, then, pain’n from ‘tractor back,’ put in another seventy-two hours.” So God made a farmer. I’ll work out. What do you do? God said, “I need somebody willing to get up before dawn, milk cows, work all day in the fields, milk cows again, eat supper and then go to town and stay past midnight at a meeting of the school board.” So God made a farmer.
Closely aligned with Hobbes was the work of Benedict Spinoza, whose Theological-Political Treatise (1670) and Ethics (1677) pursued a number of perceived Hobbesean themes in a more explicit and radical fashion, including anti-clericalism, biblical criticism, scepticism about miracles, materialism and necessitarianism (see Israel 2001). Almost all the defenders of basic Christian theology during this period had their arguments targeted against the “atheistic” doctrines of Hobbes and Spinoza. There are many people in this world who would give you motivational and inspiring speeches on how to lead an amazing life but when it comes to their deeds, you can see a clear contradiction in what they say and what they do. Rated: 3.5/4 Jan 6, 2022 Full Review Mark Feeney Boston Globe The film has the vividness of memory, but also the structure of memory, which is to say no real structure at all. Rated: C Aug 9, 2024 Full Review Steve Warren The Barb (Atlanta) The picture leaves you feeling good, the way movies used to; and it’s less likely to send you running to the nearest church than to make you throw your popcorn box in a trash receptacle instead of leaving it on the floor.
Jan 6, 2022 Full Review Robert Levin Newsday This is a deeply affecting coming-of-age story that doubles as a movie about the movies themselves. Sorrentino uses the coming-of-age genre to turn his own personal tragedy into a beguiling fable of family and creativity lost and found. I found your website about a year ago and than heard you on unbelievable. One of the most famous Bible verses is found at John 3 v 16. In it, the author explains exactly how much God loves his creation, so much so that he offers his own Son to take away the sin of man. The bigger the calamity, the greater the sin. 3. Giving (zakat): This almsgiving is a certain percentage given once a year. Why do bad things happen to good people? Why do good people suffer? Literacy tests often kept Black people from exercising their right to vote. Audiences of as many as 22 million people tuned in on 1,300 stations to a voice that had been an American institution for as long as most of them could remember.
